In May 2025, Sri Lanka witnessed an 18.5% year-on-year increase in foreign tourist arrivals, bringing the total to 132,919, following a 17.3% rise in the previous month. This represents the most significant rise since January. The majority of tourists originated from India, accounting for 35.4%, followed by the United Kingdom at 6.9%, China at 6.6%, Bangladesh at 5.5%, Germany at 5.4%, and Australia at 4.5%. Analyzing the period from January to May, there has been a 14.8% increase in foreign visitors compared to the same timeframe the previous year, totaling 1,029,803 arrivals. However, on a month-to-month basis, foreign tourist arrivals experienced a decline of 23.9%.
