Japan Foreign Reserves Fall Slightly in May

Japan's foreign reserves experienced a minor decline of $110 million in May 2025, settling at $1.298 trillion, which is near the peak observed since mid-2022. The composition of the total reserve assets includes foreign currency reserves amounting to $1.12 trillion, an IMF reserve position of $11.565 billion, Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) totaling $60.329 billion, gold reserves valued at $89.147 billion, and other reserve assets standing at $15.944 billion. Furthermore, Japan's finance ministry has recently disclosed that no foreign exchange intervention operations were carried out from January to March 2025.
