Rwanda witnessed a rise in its annual inflation rate for the third consecutive month, reaching 7.7% in May 2025. This marks the highest inflation level recorded since November 2023, with a notable increase from the 6.6% observed in April. The primary contributors to this surge were the costs of food and non-alcoholic beverages, which saw a substantial jump of 10.0% from April’s 8.2%, driven chiefly by a 6.1% hike in vegetable prices. Additionally, there was a quicker rise in prices for sectors such as restaurants and hotels (13.5% compared to 11.9% in April), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.2% versus 6.2%), housing and utilities (2.7% compared to 2.6%), and various goods and services (4.9% against 3.9%). Conversely, the inflation rates slowed for transport (2.9% down from 3%) and clothing and footwear (6.4% down from 6.6%). On a month-to-month basis, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) remained stable, following a 2.3% rise in the previous month.
