Baltic Dry Index Edges Down on Tuesday

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, which monitors the rates for ships carrying dry commodities, declined by 0.6% to 1,680 on Tuesday. The capesize index, known for transporting large cargoes of around 150,000 tons such as iron ore and coal, decreased by 1.8% to 2,956. In the segment of smaller vessels, the supramax index dropped by 7 points to reach 919, marking its lowest level in nearly three months. Conversely, the panamax index, which typically handles cargoes of 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, increased by 2.9% to hit a four-week high of 1,300.
