Bulgaria's annual inflation rate experienced an uptick, reaching 3.7% in May 2025, up from 3.5% in April. This increase in inflation was driven by faster price growth across several sectors. Notably, food and non-alcoholic beverages saw a price rise of 6.9%, compared to 5.9% the previous month. Similarly, housing and utilities edged up to 6.4% from 6.3%, while restaurants and hotels increased to 10.8% from 10.6%. The recreation and culture sector saw prices grow from 7.0% to 7.2%, and miscellaneous goods and services rose from 4.0% to 4.1%. Conversely, inflation moderated in education, moving from 7.2% to 7.0%. Deflation persisted in transport, slipping further to -3.9% from -3.1%, in health from -4.6% to -4.7%, and in clothing and footwear from -0.4% to -0.5%. On a monthly basis, consumer prices remained unchanged in May, after falling by 0.8% in the prior month.
