Eurozone Jobless Rate Edges Up from Record Low

In May 2025, the unemployment rate in the Euro Area edged up to 6.3%, after having reached a historical low of 6.2% in April. This rise surpassed the market's forecast, which had anticipated maintaining the previous month's figure. The number of unemployed individuals saw an increase of 54,000, bringing the total to 10.830 million. Concurrently, the rate of youth unemployment, which includes those under the age of 25 seeking employment, increased slightly to 14.4%, following a revision from last month's rate. Examining the unemployment statistics of the Eurozone's major economies, Germany and the Netherlands recorded the lowest rates, at 3.7% and 3.8%, respectively. Conversely, Spain (10.8%), France (7.1%), and Italy (6.5%) continue to experience higher unemployment rates. Notably, one year prior, the unemployment rate was marginally higher at 6.4%.
