Costa Rica Deflation Accelerates in June

In June 2025, Costa Rica experienced a deepening annual deflation rate of 0.22%, compared to 0.12% in May, marking the most significant price reduction since October 2024. Of the thirteen product categories assessed, six exhibited declining prices, with the transportation sector seeing the most substantial decrease at -5.02%, down from -3.63% previously. Communications followed closely with a decline of -4.03%, compared to -3.75% before, while the category of furniture, appliances, and services recorded a deflation of -1.14%, as opposed to -0.80%. Conversely, some areas continued to show inflationary trends, notably education, which rose to 3.63% from 3.4%, food increased to 1.56% from 0.9%, and rent and utilities held steady at 1.54%, slightly down from 1.6%. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices showed minimal fluctuation, increasing only by 0.04%.
