Australian PM to Visit China This Weekend to Boost Trade, Tech Ties

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced on Tuesday his upcoming visit to China, commencing this Saturday, which will include stops in Shanghai, Beijing, and Chengdu. This visit aims to deepen cooperation on artificial intelligence, green energy, and the digital economy. This marks his second visit to China since his re-election in May, following a landmark trip in 2023 that ended a seven-year diplomatic freeze. Albanese highlighted the importance of maintaining dialogue with China, despite ongoing differences between the two countries. His visit coincides with Beijing’s initiative to review the decade-old free trade agreement, focusing on strengthening ties in agriculture, mining, and emerging technologies. Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador Xiao Qian expressed that the Chinese government is open to reviewing the agreement with a more open approach and higher standards.
