Japan Machine Tool Orders Fall for First Time in 9 Months

In June 2025, Japan experienced a 0.5% decline in machine tool orders compared to the previous year, totaling JPY 133,150. This contraction follows a 3.4% increase noted in the prior month, marking the first decline in this sector since September of the previous year. The decrease is primarily attributed to a 3.3% reduction in domestic demand, which fell to JPY 39,869. Conversely, orders from foreign markets exhibited a modest increase of 0.3%, reaching JPY 93,281. On a month-to-month basis, there was a notable recovery with orders rising by 3.4% in June, contrasting the 1.2% drop observed in the previous month.
