The Swedish economy experienced a 0.2% contraction in May 2025 compared to the previous month, countering the revised 0.2% growth seen in April. This data marks the third instance of economic contraction in monthly activity this year. "In May, the Swedish economy endured a slight shrinkage, primarily due to reduced output in service-producing sectors and the general government," stated Mattias Kain Wyatt, an economist at Statistics Sweden. "From a demand perspective, the decline was influenced by factors such as diminished household spending and a drop in net exports of goods." Year-over-year, the GDP increased by 0.5% in May, following a downwardly revised 0.9% growth rate in April.
