Slovakia Industrial Output Falls at Faster Pace

In May 2025, Slovakia experienced a 4% year-over-year decline in industrial production, a further downturn following a 0.4% decrease in April. This downturn was largely attributed to a reduction in manufacturing output, which fell by 3.8% compared to a 0.5% increase previously. Notably, there was a significant decrease in the production of basic metals and fabricated metal products, excluding machinery and equipment, which dropped by 6.6% following a 3.4% rise. Other sectors such as transport equipment saw a reduction of 2.6%, down from a 6% increase, and wood and paper products, along with printing, fell by 2.2%, contrasting a previous 2.1% rise. Furthermore, while output growth in the mining and quarrying sectors continued, it decelerated substantially to 4.1% from 17.8%. The decrease in output for electricity, gas, and air-conditioning supply also lessened, showing a slower contraction of 7.4%, compared to a previous decline of 9.5%.
