Belgium Industrial Output Falls for Sixth Consecutive Month

Belgium experienced a 7.3% decrease in industrial production year-on-year in May 2025. This marks the sixth consecutive month of decline and is a considerable acceleration from the revised 2.4% drop in April. The decline was primarily due to reduced output in mining and quarrying, which fell by 2.9% compared to April's 2.0% decrease, and manufacturing, which saw a decline of 7.5% following a 1.6% drop the previous month. Conversely, the contraction in electricity and energy supply eased, decreasing by 4.0% as opposed to 8.0% in April. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial output dipped by 2.8% in May, following a revised decrease of 0.6% in April.
