Romania Current Account Balance Swings to Deficit

In May 2025, Romania's current account balance presented a deficit of EUR 1,593 million, a significant change from a surplus of EUR 1,474 million recorded in the same month of the previous year. This marked the largest deficit since October 2024, primarily driven by deficits in the goods account, which stood at EUR -2,803 million compared to EUR -2,908 million in May 2024, and the primary income account, which recorded EUR -1,129 million as opposed to EUR -612 million. Meanwhile, the surplus in services saw an increase, rising to EUR 1,004 million from EUR 930 million.
