German Investor Sentiment Reaches Highest Since 2022

The ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment for Germany saw its third consecutive monthly rise, reaching 52.7 in July 2025. This marks its highest level since February 2022, up from 47.5 in June, and surpasses the anticipated 50.3. "Despite the persistent uncertainty surrounding global trade disputes, nearly two-thirds of experts anticipate a positive shift in the German economy," remarked ZEW President, Prof. Achim Wambach. The sentiment appears to be buoyed by the prospect of a swift resolution to the US-EU tariff issues and the potential economic boost from the German government's proposed emergency investment program. This growing optimism is particularly evident in the substantial rise in expectations for the mechanical engineering and metal production sectors, with notable improvements in the electrical engineering industry following closely. Furthermore, the ZEW's assessment of current conditions climbed to -59.5, the highest since June 2023, improving from -72 in the preceding month.
