Trump Restarts Trade Talks with Cambodia, Thailand After Ceasefire

President Donald Trump announced his directive for officials to resume trade discussions with Cambodia and Thailand following their agreement to cease five days of hostilities along their contested border. "By ending this conflict, we have preserved thousands of lives. I have instructed my trade team to recommence negotiations," Trump stated in a social media post on Monday. He confirmed conversations with Thailand's Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Manet to facilitate the ceasefire. The agreement was reached during talks in Malaysia, which were hosted by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The clashes displaced more than 150,000 civilians. Trump had previously cautioned both countries that their trade agreements with the United States would be in jeopardy, facing a potential imposition of 36% tariffs starting Friday if hostilities persisted.
