Brazil Industrial Confidence Hits 2025 Low in August

The Confidence Index of Brazilian Industrial Entrepreneurs (ICEI) declined to 46.1 points in August 2025, marking the lowest level recorded this year, with a 1.2-point decrease from July. The index has been below the neutral threshold of 50 since January, showing a consistent trend of increasing pessimism as it has fallen in five out of the eight months from January to August. The downturn in August was primarily attributable to diminished expectations for the sector, although evaluations of current conditions remained stable. Specifically, the Expectations Index decreased to 47.8 points, reflecting a 1.9-point drop. Within this index, expectations for Brazil's economy fell to 38.6, and projections concerning their own companies decreased to 52.4—each down by 1.9 points. Meanwhile, the Current Conditions Index held steady at 42.6, with negligible change (+0.2), as a 0.6-point decline in perceptions of the national economy (now at 34.8) was counterbalanced by a 0.6-point increase in the assessment of conditions within individual companies (rising to 46.5).
