US Homebuilder Sentiment Unexpectedly Falls

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index slightly dipped to 32 in August 2025 from 33 in July, which fell short of market predictions of 34. The current sales condition index decreased by one point to 35, while sales expectations for the upcoming six months remained constant at 43. Notably, the traffic of prospective buyers increased by two points to 22, although it still lingers at a relatively low level. In August, 37% of builders reported price cuts, slightly reduced from 38% in July. This percentage has hovered between 37% and 38% for the past three months. The average price reduction remained steady at 5%, unchanged from every month since last November. Additionally, the use of sales incentives reached 66% in August, rising from 62% in July, marking the highest level in the post-COVID period.
