In July 2025, retail sales in Estonia experienced a modest year-over-year increase of 0.7%, a deceleration from the 5% rise recorded the previous month. This marks the eighth consecutive month of retail expansion, albeit at a reduced rate, as growth eased in several sectors. Sales of automotive fuel in specialized stores rose by 9.7%, down from 12.2% in June. Similarly, sales of second-hand goods, kiosks and market retail, as well as other unspecified retail activities, experienced a slowdown, increasing by only 6.4% compared to the previous 13.2% growth. The maintenance and repair services for motor vehicles also saw growth taper off to 3.3% from 9.7%.
In contrast, there was a notable downturn in other non-specialized retail store sales, which fell by 7.6% compared to a 2.2% decline in the previous month. Non-specialized stores primarily dealing in food, tobacco, or beverages also experienced a drop, with sales falling 4.6% after a 3.6% decrease. On the other hand, sales surged in the technology sector, with computers, peripheral units, software, and telecommunications equipment experiencing a sharper increase of 27.8%, up from 21.8%.
On a month-to-month basis, overall retail activity declined by 0.5% in July, following a similar 0.1% decrease in the prior period.
