Turkey has lifted extra tariffs on various U.S. imports such as passenger vehicles, fruits, rice, tobacco, alcoholic drinks, solid fuels, and certain chemicals, according to an announcement in the country’s Official Gazette on Monday. This decision comes as President Tayyip Erdogan travels to the United States to participate in the UN General Assembly and hold discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday. These tariffs were initially enacted in 2018 as a counteraction to U.S. trade measures imposed under Trump’s administration.
