Croatia Retail Sales Growth Picks Up to 2.4%

In August 2025, Croatia experienced a 2.4% year-over-year increase in retail sales, a notable acceleration from the revised growth figure of 1.5% recorded in July. The boost was largely attributed to a more robust increase in sales of non-food items, which grew by 8.7% compared to 8.4% in the previous month, as well as a significant rise in the sales of automotive fuels and lubricants, which surged by 6.5%, up from 3.2%. Conversely, the growth in internet or mail-order sales decelerated to 3.0% from 4.1%, and there was a further decline in sales of food, beverages, and tobacco, which dropped by 2.8% following a 1.9% decline in July. On a month-to-month basis, retail turnover improved by 0.4%, rebounding from a downwardly revised 1.7% decrease in July, marking the sharpest decline since April 2021. Overall, retail sales for the January to August period saw a 3.6% increase compared to the same timeframe in the previous year.
