Indonesia Imports Shrink the Most in 15 Months

Indonesia's imports in August 2025 saw a significant decrease of 6.56% year-on-year, amounting to USD 19.47 billion. This decline followed a 5.86% reduction in July, marking the second consecutive month of contraction and representing the most substantial drop since May 2024. The import figures also fell short of market expectations, which had predicted a 2.0% decrease. This downturn can be attributed to the depreciation of the rupiah, diminished purchasing power, and a slow recovery from recent nationwide protests. Between January and August, total imports increased by 2.05%, reaching USD 156.0 billion.
