UK Composite PMI Falls to 5-Month Low

The S&P Global UK Composite PMI experienced a significant decline in September 2025, dropping to 50.1 from the preliminary figure of 51 and down from 53.5 in August. This marks the lowest point in five months, highlighting stagnant activity in the private sector. While output in the service sector saw a slight increase, manufacturing production fell at the fastest rate recorded in six months. The resurgence in new business growth observed in August was short-lived as factory order books plummeted, resulting in another contraction. Employment levels continued their downward trend, with private sector payrolls shrinking for the twelfth month in a row. Both services and manufacturing sectors reported job losses, indicating a climate of subdued demand and persistent cost pressures, which kept businesses wary of expanding their workforce.
