Eurozone Construction Downturn Deepens

The HCOB Eurozone Construction PMI decreased to 46 in September 2025, down from 46.7 in August, signaling a continued contraction in the sector. This downturn was evident across all three monitored segments, with residential construction being the most severely affected. New orders continued their steep decline, particularly in France and Germany, prompting construction firms to further reduce their workforce. However, the reduction in jobs was at the slowest pace observed in six months. In terms of costs, input price inflation picked up in September, primarily due to a significant rise in operating expenses in Germany, marking the most substantial cost increase in three months. Furthermore, business confidence within eurozone construction companies remained low, with September marking the fourth consecutive month of negative outlook. The overall pessimism reached its highest level in eight months.
