France Forex Reserves Hit Record High

In September 2025, France experienced a significant rise in its official reserve assets, reaching €330.27 billion, up from €304.80 billion in August 2025. This increase represents the largest foreign exchange reserve on record since data collection commenced in 1972, primarily driven by a substantial growth in gold reserves, which climbed to €254.59 billion from €229.16 billion the previous month. Additionally, there was a slight uptick in claims on the International Monetary Fund (IMF), rising to €38.60 billion from €38.42 billion. Conversely, there was a minor decline in foreign currency reserves, which fell to €30.68 billion from €30.81 billion, as well as in other reserve assets, which slipped to €6.40 billion from €6.42 billion.
