Czechia Industrial Output Falls for 1st Time in 7 Months

In August 2025, the Czech Republic experienced a 1.3% year-on-year decline in industrial production, a downturn from the 1.8% growth observed in July and significantly below the anticipated 0.6% increase. This represents the first decrease in industrial activity since January. The mining and quarrying sector witnessed a notable contraction, with output plummeting by 12.6%, down from a 9.8% rise in the previous month. Manufacturing output also declined by 1.7%, as opposed to a 1.7% increase prior. Conversely, production in the electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply sector rose by 5.8%, an acceleration from the previous month's 1.1%. When adjusted for seasonal variations, industrial activity decreased by 1.1% on a monthly basis in August, a reversal from the 0.8% gain recorded in the preceding month.
