In September 2025, Hungary experienced a budget deficit of HUF 303.2 billion, a notable shift from the surplus of HUF 234.2 billion recorded in the same month the previous year. This development increased the cumulative deficit for the first nine months of the year to HUF 3.33 trillion. The growing shortfall is primarily attributed to elevated debt servicing costs, augmented expenditures on state transportation and utility infrastructure, and increased pension payments.
