In the United Kingdom, average weekly earnings (AWE), including bonuses, rose by 5.0% year-over-year to reach £733 per week in the three months ending August 2025. This marks an acceleration from a previously revised 4.8% increase and exceeded market forecasts of 4.7%. This represents the swiftest pace of wage growth since the three months ending in May, primarily fueled by slightly elevated bonuses distributed in August 2025 compared to the prior year. Pay growth in the public sector strengthened to 5.8%, up from 5.1%, while private sector earnings rose to 4.8%, an increase from 4.7% in the preceding period. Excluding bonuses, regular pay saw a growth of 4.7% from June to August, slightly lower than the 4.8% recorded in the previous period and marking the slowest rate since the period between February and April 2022. Adjusted for inflation, real total earnings experienced a rise of 0.8%, an improvement from the 0.6% growth in the previous period, while real regular earnings increased by 0.6%, marginally down from 0.7%.
