Canada Manufacturing Sales Fall in August

In August 2025, Canada witnessed a 1.0% decline in manufacturing sales, totaling $69.4 billion. This performance, though slightly better than the anticipated 1.5% decline, came after a 2.5% increase in July. The transportation equipment sector experienced a notable decrease of 5.7%, reaching $10.7 billion, following a robust 7.7% rise in the previous month. This downturn was primarily due to reduced production in aerospace products and parts (down 8.6%), motor vehicle parts (down 5.2%), and motor vehicles (down 3.3%). Additionally, the food sector saw a 1.9% drop to $12.9 billion, marking its second consecutive monthly decline. These decreases were somewhat counterbalanced by a 3.6% increase in the primary metals sector, which recorded its second consecutive rise. Regionally, sales declined in six provinces, with Quebec experiencing a 1.6% decrease and Ontario 0.8%. On a year-to-date basis, overall manufacturing sales were down by 1.0%.
