Baltic Dry Index Snaps Two-day Losing Streak

On Thursday, the Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index increased by 2.5%, reaching 2,046 points, breaking a two-day losing trend. Specifically, the capesize index, which monitors large ships that transport approximately 150,000 tons of cargo such as iron ore and coal, saw a notable rise of 4.9%, settling at 3,058 points. Meanwhile, the panamax index, which accounts for vessels typically carrying 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, climbed to 1,826 points—the highest level observed since September 26. As for smaller vessels, the supramax index experienced a slight uptick, gaining four points to reach 1,422 points.
