Mongolia PM Steps Down After Short Tenure

Mongolian Prime Minister Gombojav Zandanshatar has stepped down just four months into his tenure, according to a report by Reuters on Friday. Zandanshatar had been confirmed by Mongolia's lawmakers, assuming the role following the resignation of his predecessor, Luvsannamsrai Oyun-Erdene. Oyun-Erdene had left office after losing the support of the parliament amid allegations of corruption and subsequent public protests. Zandanshatar's sudden resignation adds to the ongoing political turmoil and public discontent over economic issues like inflation, high youth unemployment, and sluggish advancements in mining sector reforms. The Mongolian People's Party, currently in power, is expected to put forward a new candidate in the coming days to prevent a leadership gap as the nation approaches its general elections next year.
