Turkish Jobless Rate Highest in 9 Months

In September, Turkey's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained stable at 8.6%, consistent with the revised figure for August. This rate represents the highest level of unemployment since November 2024. The rise in unemployment was driven by an increase of 12,000 people, reaching a total of 3.08 million individuals without jobs. Simultaneously, employment numbers dropped by 200,000, bringing total employment to a five-month low of 32.49 million, thereby reducing the overall employment rate from 49.2% to 48.9%. Among the employed, male participation stood at 66.3%, while female participation was 31.8%. Labor force participation overall edged down to 53.5%, the lowest in eight months, from a previous 53.8%. Notably, unemployment among the youth aged 15–24 decreased to a 10-month low of 14.9% in September, down from 15.8% in August.
