Cyprus Retail Sales Growth at 4-Month High

Retail sales in Cyprus experienced a 9% year-over-year increase in September 2025, up from an 8.4% rise noted in August. This surge represents the most significant growth in retail activity since May. The uptick was predominantly fueled by increased sales in food, beverages, and tobacco within both non-specialized (8.7% compared to 7.7% in August) and specialized stores (19.2% versus 16.5%). Additionally, automotive fuel sales rebounded (6.4% versus a prior decline of -1%), while clothing and footwear sales adjusted slightly (15.8% compared to 18.1%), and household equipment purchases climbed (10.4% from 7.4%). Conversely, there was a decline in sales of cultural and recreation goods (-1.2% from 0.4%) and a deceleration in information and communication (4.7% from 9.8%) as well as in flowers, plants, watches, jewelry, optical goods, and second-hand items (7.3% from 11.6%). Cumulatively, retail trade grew by 7.6% on a year-to-date basis.
