South Africa Auto Sales See Best October Since 2014

In October 2025, total vehicle sales in South Africa increased by 16% year-on-year, reaching 55,956 units and marking the highest figures for October since 2014. According to Naamsa, this surge can be attributed to factors such as decreasing inflation, a stronger rand, improving consumer confidence, and revived demand in principal export markets. The new passenger car segment reached 39,610 units in October, marking its best month since October 2014 and reflecting a 14.8% rise from October 2024. The commercial vehicle sector displayed mixed results; medium commercial vehicle sales rose to 809 units, a 9.3% increase from the previous year's 740 units, while sales of heavy trucks and buses fell to 2,176 units, down by 1.0% compared to 2024. Year-to-date, the new vehicle market has expanded by 15.7%, compared to the same period in 2024.
