Baltic Dry Index Hits Over 3-Week High, Posts Weekly Gain

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk index, which monitors freight rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, climbed for the fourth consecutive session on Friday, increasing by approximately 2% to reach its highest level since October 13, at 2,104 points. The capesize index, which generally carries 150,000-ton shipments such as iron ore and coal, also rose for the fourth consecutive day, advancing 3.1% to a three-week peak of 3,341 points. Meanwhile, the panamax index, usually associated with transporting 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, experienced a growth of 0.9%, reaching 1,833 points. In terms of smaller vessels, the supramax index saw a 0.5% increase, coming in at 1,319 points. Over the course of the week, the benchmark index recorded a 7% rise.
