Romania Posts Smallest Trade Deficit in 3 Months

In September 2025, Romania recorded a trade deficit reduction to EUR 2.5 billion, slightly less than the EUR 2.6 billion noted in the same period the previous year, representing the smallest monthly deficit since June. There was a notable increase in exports, which grew by 9.2% year-on-year, reaching EUR 8.9 billion. This growth was largely attributed to increased sales to both EU countries, which rose by 3.1%, and non-EU countries, which saw an increase of 7.0%. On the import side, there was a 6.2% year-on-year growth, with total imports amounting to EUR 11.4 billion, driven by higher acquisitions from EU countries (up 3.7%) and non-EU countries (up 5.5%). Over the first nine months of the year, the trade deficit expanded to EUR 24.5 billion, compared to EUR 23.5 billion during the equivalent period in 2024.
