South Africa PPI Inflation Up for 5th Month

In October 2025, South Africa witnessed its fifth consecutive month of rising Producer Price Index (PPI) inflation, which reached 2.9%, marking its highest point since July 2024. This was an increase from September's rate of 2.3%, although it fell short of the anticipated 3.1%. Key drivers of this annual inflation rate were primarily the categories of food, beverages, and tobacco products, which grew by 3.1% and contributed 0.9 percentage points to the overall figure. Additionally, the sectors of coke, petroleum, chemical, rubber, and plastic products saw a 2.5% increase, adding 0.5 percentage points, while furniture and other manufacturing rose sharply by 11.2%, also contributing 0.5 points. On a month-to-month comparison, producer prices experienced a slight dip of 0.1% in October, mirroring the decrease also observed in the previous month.
