Slovakia Retail Sales Ease in October

In October 2025, Slovakia experienced a 0.6% increase in retail sales compared to the same month last year, marking a slowdown from the 1.4% rise observed in September. Notably, sales of ICT equipment dropped by 3.9%, a significant decrease from the 12.5% growth seen the previous month. Transactions in non-specialized stores slightly declined by 0.1%, down from a 0.7% increase, while sales of other household equipment fell further by 6.7%, escalating from a 0.1% dip. Similarly, trade involving non-store environments, such as stalls or markets, decreased by 7.3%, compared to a 1.5% fall earlier.

Conversely, there was an uptick in the sales of automotive fuel, which rose by 0.8%, recovering slightly from a 0.7% climb. Specialized stores experienced increased demand, with sales rising by 11.3%, up from 8.1%. Additionally, purchases of cultural and recreational goods bounced back by 0.6%, reversing a previous decline of 5.8%. The downturn in sales of food, beverages, and tobacco moderated to 9.8%, improving upon September's 10.7% drop, and sales via stalls and markets fell less sharply, at 15.7%, compared to 21.7% before. On a month-to-month basis, retail trade decreased by 0.7% in October, negating a 1.6% rise recorded in the preceding period.
