Romania experienced a 4% decrease in retail sales in October 2025 compared to the same period a year earlier, following a revised 2.1% decline in the preceding two months. This represents the most significant downturn in retail performance since April 2020. Sales of automotive fuels diminished by 3.4%, compared to a 4% decrease in September. Concurrently, there was a further decline in sales for food, beverages, and tobacco, plunging by 6.9% compared to a 4.7% drop previously, while non-food product sales fell by 2.2%, down from a 1% decline. On a monthly basis, retail activity decreased by 1.1%, reversing a previously revised 1.1% increase.
