In October 2025, Thailand's retail sales soared by an impressive 66.5% compared to the previous year, following a revised 50% increase in September. This surge represents the most significant growth since December 1999. A major factor in this robust expansion was the dramatic rise in sales of miscellaneous retail items, which grew by 113.8%, up from 99% the previous month. This growth was particularly evident in specialized stores and online/mail-order sales of new goods. Additionally, there was an acceleration in the trade of non-durable goods, which rose by 5.4%, up from 3.9%, driven largely by increased sales of tobacco products in specialized outlets. Conversely, there was a decline in the sales of motor vehicles and automotive fuel, which fell by 1.8%, a downturn from the previous month's 3.9% growth. There were also slower sales increases reported for department stores, supermarkets, and general stores, which grew by 1.9%, down from 22.4%, as well as for durable goods, which saw a modest rise of 0.2%, compared to 1.5% earlier. On a monthly basis, retail activity grew by 26.9% in October, following a 45.9% increase in the prior period.
