Baltic Dry Index Down for 3rd Day

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk index, an indicator for the pricing of vessel rates in the dry commodities sector, experienced a decline for the third consecutive session on Wednesday. It fell by nearly 3%, reaching its lowest point since July of the previous year at 1,776 points, with significant pressure coming from the larger vessel segments. The capesize index, which is typically responsible for transporting 150,000-ton cargoes, including iron ore and coal, saw its losses continue for the tenth day, decreasing by 4.6% to 2,878 points. Meanwhile, the supramax index decreased by 18 points to 993 points. On the contrary, the panamax index, generally used for shipments of 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, increased by approximately 1% to 1,317 points.
