Japan Foreign Reserves Hits Near 4-Year High

In December 2025, Japan's foreign reserves rose by $10.42 billion, reaching $1.37 trillion, the highest figure recorded since February 2022. These reserves comprised $1.16 trillion in foreign currency assets, $11.26 billion in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reserve position, $60.84 billion in Special Drawing Rights (SDRs), $117.17 billion in gold holdings, and $16.3 billion in other reserve assets. It is noteworthy that the finance ministry had previously announced that there were no foreign exchange interventions from July to September 2025.
