US Mortgage Rates Drop to Over 3-Year Low

As of January 15th, the average interest rate for a 30-year fixed mortgage has decreased to 6.06%, down from 6.16% the previous week, marking the lowest level observed since September 2022, as reported by Freddie Mac. Sam Khater, the chief economist at Freddie Mac, commented on the development, stating, "Late last week, mortgage rates fell, causing the weekly average to reach its lowest point in more than three years. The impact is evident, with a noticeable increase in weekly applications for purchases and refinancing, highlighting the advantages for both prospective buyers and current homeowners. It seems that housing activity is on the rise and set for a robust spring sales season."
