Bulgaria Posts Record Current Account Gap

In November 2025, Bulgaria reported a current account deficit of EUR 1,114 million, significantly exceeding the EUR 415.7 million deficit recorded in the same month of the previous year. This represents the largest deficit since records began in January 1998, primarily attributed to a considerable expansion in the goods account gap, which grew to EUR 1,059.8 million from EUR 782.3 million in November 2024. Additionally, the deficit in net primary income — encompassing income from resource utilization such as labor, capital, land, production taxes, import duties, and subsidies — increased to EUR 717.6 million from EUR 345.5 million. Meanwhile, the surplus in net secondary income, indicative of income redistribution, contracted sharply to EUR 39.4 million from EUR 101 million. Conversely, the services account surplus increased slightly to EUR 624.1 million from EUR 611.2 million compared to the previous year.
