Danish Consumer Morale Improves to 1-Year High

Denmark experienced an improvement in consumer confidence in January 2026, with the index rising to -13.4 from December's -17.3. This increase marks the highest level of confidence since January 2025. A significant contributor to this rise is an improved perception of household financial conditions, as the indicator for the current financial state of families increased to -8.2, the best reading since March 2025. Additionally, there is a less pessimistic outlook regarding the national economy over the forthcoming 12 months, with predictions improving from -21.0 to -15.8. Expectations for household finances looking ahead a year moved closer to a neutral stance, rising to -1.5 from -4.

Nonetheless, consumers still perceive the current economic climate compared to a year ago as unfavorable, with the index at -24.4, a slight improvement from -28.7. Attitudes toward making major purchases continue to reflect caution, with a minor shift from -17.3 to -17.2. In other related indicators, while consumers noted an increase in prices compared to the previous year (44.5 vs 50.8), they anticipate a reduction in the rate of price inflation moving forward (18.1 vs 26.1). Meanwhile, expectations of higher unemployment in the coming year remain substantially high, nearly unchanged at 15.6 compared to 15.7.
