In December 2025, Macau experienced a slight rise in its unemployment rate, reaching 1.8%, up from 1.7% observed in the preceding two months. The number of unemployed individuals increased modestly by 100 to a total of 6,800. Conversely, overall employment saw a growth of 400, bringing the total employed population to 379,300. Employment gains were noticeable in sectors such as gaming, wholesale and retail trade, hotels, and related services, along with restaurants and similar activities. In contrast, the construction sector witnessed a decline in jobs. The labor force participation rate held steady at 67.2%. A marginal decrease was observed in the male participation rate, which dropped to 69.2% from 69.4% in November, whereas the female participation rate remained constant at 65.5%.
