Sensex Bounces Back and Closes Higher

India's BSE Sensex experienced a late-session rebound on Monday, concluding with a 1.2% increase at 81,666. This rise was largely driven by gains in infrastructure stocks as investors continued to assess the implications of the Union Budget 2026. Previously, in a special Budget trading session on Sunday, February 1, the domestic equity benchmark index had closed significantly lower after surprise changes were introduced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, particularly an unexpected hike in the Securities Transaction Tax (STT) on futures and options. Nonetheless, the budget maintained a strong emphasis on infrastructure and manufacturing sectors.
