On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump approved a one-year extension of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), a trade initiative favoring African nations. This extension is effective until December 31 and is retroactively applicable from September 30, 2025, as announced by U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. This decision reinstates duty-free access for selected Sub-Saharan African countries to the U.S. market, following the program's recent lapse in September. Originally instituted in 2000, AGOA enables eligible countries to export over 1,800 products to the United States without imposing tariffs, thereby bolstering trade, investment, and employment throughout the region.
