Ecuador Inflation Accelerates the Most in 20 Months

Ecuador experienced a notable acceleration in its annual inflation rate, reaching 2.44% in January 2026, compared to 1.91% in December. This marks the most significant increase since May 2024. Noteworthy rises were observed in sectors such as housing and utilities, which surged by 20.79%, healthcare at 3.13%, alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 1.43%, as well as restaurants and hotels at 1.47%, and food and non-alcoholic beverages at 2.09%. Conversely, deflationary trends were evident in categories like clothing and footwear, which saw a decrease of 4.89%, recreation and culture down by 2.54%, and communications slightly dipping by 0.28%. On a monthly scale, consumer prices edged up by 0.37% in January, reversing the previous month's 0.14% decline.
