Turkey Retail Sales Growth Hits 7-Month High

Retail sales in Turkey rose 16.3% year-on-year in December 2025, up from a 14.9% increase in November and marking the strongest expansion since May. Growth in trade accelerated for non-food products (20.3% vs. 17% in November), driven in particular by computers, peripheral equipment and software (29.7% vs. 26.1%), audio and video equipment (9.1% vs. 8.2%), and pharmaceutical, medical and orthopedic goods (22.1% vs. 21%). Sales of textiles, clothing and footwear also rebounded, increasing 8.4% after a 1.5% decline in November.

By contrast, growth eased in several categories, including food, beverages and tobacco (9.6% vs. 11.6%), mail-order and internet sales (16.7% vs. 18.3%), and automotive fuel (8.3% vs. 10%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail trade advanced 1.7%, matching the revised November reading and defying market expectations for a 0.2% decline.
