Canada Imports Increase in December

Canada’s imports rose 0.6% month-on-month to C$66.9 billion in December 2025, with increases recorded in 6 of 11 product categories. Imports of motor vehicles and parts climbed 5.1%, led by a 12.1% surge in passenger cars and light trucks. Purchases of metal and non-metallic mineral products advanced 7.7%, driven by a 53.5% spike in unwrought gold, silver and platinum group metals, along with a 16.4% increase in metal ores and non-metallic minerals. These gains were partially offset by declines in consumer goods (-4.5%), basic and industrial chemical, plastic and rubber products (-4.7%), and farm, fishing and intermediate food products (-7.3%).
